michelle and i were puzzled by the women only subway cars in osaka.
after we were sitting in one with a lot of other content and peaceful ladies,
a harried-looking young pup rushed on,
and an older yet sprightly gentleman platform guard in a suit promptly also stepped into the lady car, told the offending teen to leave and escorted him out.
the boy looked so embarrassed that it was a little painful to see.
the lady-only experience was interesting,
but i forgot that one of my favorite subway-riding pastimes is checking out the boiz. so i guess that one didn’t really work in my favor.
BUT after doing some research on this phenomenon, i learned that japan has a major subway groping problem. and osaka especially. and our little local subway line (midosuji) in particular!
2006 cbs clip on women-only trains
“sexual harrasment has been around ever since men and women started ‘hanging out’ together”?? really, cbs news?
m-k told me that seoul used this system too for awhile but since the groping was never really a problem here, the women-only cars program was quickly abandoned.
it was good being a lady in japan in general. we got constant lady discounts, such as half-price lady-only ticket machines for the amazing SPAWORLD.
